Immigration File Record and Case Status

We can assist you retrieve your Canadian immigration file, or make a case status inquiry with CIC in-land offices.

Immigration files held by CIC and CBSA are accessible through requests made under the privacy and access to information acts.

The “Client Application Status” feature on CIC’s website offers limited information. Furthermore, CIC and CBSA are not required to provide a full disclosure of a file when the person concerned makes an informal case status inquiry.

A formal request for file information should be considered in the following circumstances:

  • Application refusal
  • Applicant called for immigration interview
  • Appeals
  • Inadmissibility
  • Long delays in processing

Please note only Canadian citizens, Permanent residents of Canada and individuals physically present in Canada can make requests pursuant to the privacy act and the ATI act.
